One good way to show the effects of smoking on the lungs would be having pictures, you know the saying, a picture's worth a thousand words. Another way would be to get as much information from as many sources as you can find. It would also be a good idea to put it into a cycle of how much build-up is in your lungs, in a sort of flow chart.
