Multiples of 18: 18 36 54 72 90 ...
Multiples of 24: 24 48 72 95 ...

∴ the least common denominator is 72.

You can find an answer using prime factors:
18 = 2*3*3 = 2*32
24 = 2*2*2*3 = 23*3

∴ the least common multiple is 23*32 = 72

One is the least common denominator of any two numbers.   I think maybe you mean lowest common multiple?  Or greatest common denominator?

You could make use of the following formula:

LCM = (a * b) / gcd(a,b)

To calculate the GCD, make use of the Euclidean algorithm:

24 / 18 = (1 * 18) + 6

18 / 6 = (3 * 6) + 0

Since the last remainder is zero, the algorithm ends with 6 as the greatest common divisor of 24 and 18.

LCM = 24 * 18 / 6

LCM = 432 / 6

LCM = 72
