You haven't given any possibilities to choose from so it is quite difficult to answer your question. However there are several situations where you should not slow down on the road. One of the key reasons is when someone is tailgating you very closely. There is no reason why that person should be following you so closely and they are creating a hazard for both them and yourself. If someone is doing this then the main thing is that you do not slow down.

Below are some ways on how to handle tailgaters when you are out driving.

  • Stay at a constant speed
This is the most important thing to do when someone is tailgating you. Keeping your speed the same will allow the person behind you to safely judge when they can pass you. Try to avoid slowing down or speeding up even a little bit as this will send the wrong message to the driver behind you and it may even frustrate them.

  • Keep calm
The first step is to remain calm because by doing this, you remain in control of yourself and your car. Try taking a few deep breaths and keep your mind focused on the situation you are in.

  • Pull over
If it is safe for you to do so, then you should pull over slowly to the side of the road and allow the vehicle behind you to drive past.

  • Prepare for the driver being aggressive
The driver behind you may start to get aggressive if they stay behind you for a long time. Be prepared for them blowing their horn, gesturing at you in your mirror or shouting insults. They may even turn on their high beam headlights so turning your rear view mirror to the nighttime position will help you to stay focused.
