The sulibao is a percussion instrument native to the Philippines.

It is best described as a 'cone-shaped tenor drum', and is used in the traditional music of the indigenous Ibaloi people of northern Philippines.

What is a sulibao?
Until I came across this question, I have to admit that I had no idea what the sulibao was.

After a quick internet search, I discovered that this percussion instrument is actually a rather fascinating drum played by the Ibaloi people of northern Philippines.

If you're wondering why more people don't know about this instrument, it might have something to do with the fact that there are only 55,000 native Ibaloi people in the world.

The sulibao is a hand drum, and is played by tapping the flat surface with an open palm or fingers.

It is often made of hard wood and animal skin, and forms part of a traditional percussion ensemble often seen in Filipino music.

A higher pitched kimbal drum usually accompanies the sulibao, and other Ibaloi drums include the: Gangsa, kalsa, and pinsak.
