Bilingual is term used for possessing the knowledge of two languages. It refers to proficiency in two languages. It is the ability to understand, read and write in two languages fluently and use them easily. A person who has this ability is known as bilinguist. The usage of two languages at the same time is known as bilingual education. It is the practice of teaching and educating people in two languages.

Nowadays education is not only bilingual but multilingual as a result of globalisation. The world has become a very small place and thus the realisation has set in that the knowledge of various languages is extremely useful and helps a lot in the process of effective communication and interaction
