a^2 + b^2 = c^2 The Pythagorean theorem.

c is the hypotenuse. a and b are the legs.

So. Rearrange algebraically first.

a^2 + b^2 = c^2

c = sqrt(a^2 + b^2)

c = sqrt(20 units^2 + 12 units^2)

c = sqrt(400 + 144)

c = sqrt(544)

c(hypotenuse) = 23.3 units
