Has anyone else noticed the increase in people who can't count change back without a register or a calculator?

Part of the blame is on the school system ... Part on parents ... And part on business.  Every place I've worked, the business required you to be able to do basic math without a calculator.

Well ... One place allowed you to use an abacus, if you wanted ... Because they figured it wasn't much different from using your fingers and toes.  LOL

Without any electronics, most kids and young adults can't do much of anything. I'd like to see them survive life if all of a sudden we had no electricity. They'd all cower in their bedrooms uselessly tapping on their phones.

Sadly yes, a few years back we were in Wyoming. We went to a Sonic for Cherry Limeaids. We gave the gal a hundred dollar bill and she actually asked us what change we were supposed to get back.

LOL!!! She was a cute little thing too. Not sure what flustered her the 100 dollar bill or my hubby 's cute face. But she turned this bright shade of red. My sweet hubby patiently explained to her the basic math. She finally got it!

Angela, I just noticed your avatar. Is that a Bassett hound puppy asleep in his/ her chow bowl? Omg!! Very cute. I will get a Bassett one day. I'm going to name it either Pajamas or Luther Lee.

When I feel like messing with them - because somehow you can just tell - after I've given them a $20, they put in the $20 in the cash register - then I had them the change. The look on their face is priceless and at the same time, very sad because they haven't a clue how to figure it out and most of the time, don't care to learn!

Good thing the register is so accomidating. So few can count change back to you in the correct manner anymore. They just hand it to you and tell you the number the register comes up with.

I can't tell you how many times the cashier has put in $100.00 in for $10.00 then look at me and get flustered. Absolutely unreal that simple math is a lost past time! Math is not and never has been a strong point of mine, but I can count change back!

People need to do a back track.and look at how basic math is taught! Kids and some adults can't do basic math without a calculator or the calculator on the cell phone.
