Let T-shirt cost = T

book cost = B

1. make equation

T + B = $57.95

T + 29.37 = 57.95

2. Solving equation

T + 29.37 = 57.95

T = 57.95 - 29.37

T = 28.58

3.  cost of a T -shirt  is $ 28.58
