If somebody from the 19th century, or earlier, somehow arrived in 2016, how would you help them adapt to this strange new world?

Quickly get them away from the cities and into the country where things could be gradually explained to them

I think the technology world would blow them away! First thing I would teach them is to take a typing class.

Dear Didge, have you read the book ISHI, LAST OF HIS TRIBE? Something along the line of your question did happen...when during the California gold rush the whole Yahi tribe was killed, except for the last six, who hid.

And when the last survivor was alone, he stumbled out of the Northern California wilderness in 1911. He only lived five years after that...but the books tells his story, his amazement at encountering such a "huge" gathering of people in that town. He ended up living out his days in a museum...

The 1973 book is well written and poignant, examining much along the lines of your question.

Your reading is amazing! And at the same time providing for and raising your family...

I spent almost 3½ hours a day travelling to work, 5 or 6 days a week. It left lots of time for reading. When I stopped travelling to work my reading dropped off enormously but since Lynne is also a reader we often read together instead of watching TV. It's companionable.

And conversation is no distraction. After all, it was C.S.Lewis who said to a young married woman in one of his books, "You should always talk to your husband when he's reading, my dear. It helps him to concentrate on his book."

First understand, past, present, and future,

all coincide. No longer are things coming from

the past alone. It is an open spectrum on both ends.

The veil is so thin things and people are popping in

and out all of the time. One could think there might be,

a collision of sorts, but as yet this has not occurred.

I would explain him which historical events happened.

That would be so necessary, Goranko. Getting him to understand what had happened, and how, would be an enormous task.
