Well, even in professional sports, the referee has the final say about whether to call a foul.

Perhaps the teacher thought you were consciously synergizing the "burp."

NO MATTER WHAT a burp alone (even multiple burps!) is not a good reason to give out a detention! However, I don't think you should do anything about it, even though you could. Detention, at least at my school, is just free homework time in a classroom setting: TAKE IT.

Boy ! School sure has changed. If they gave out detention for burping and farting when I was in school? I would still be serving it.

Truth is ? If you did it several times? Then you asked for trouble. If only once? Then I think that's a little harsh treatment. You did say "Excuse me" also. You could talk to your Principle about it and maybe square things away that way. In today's PC world, those kinds of things are unacceptable I guess. Good luck but talk to someone and rectify the situation.

No you shouldn't, unless you was making yourself burp in order to make the class laugh which would be classed as disruptive.  Speak to your parents, you shouldn't be punished for involuntary bodily functions, it's lunacy.

My partner got the cane for passing gas Rooster.
Ryan you have to be honest with yourself as to whether you think that anything in your behaviour deserved a detention. If you are innocent then speak to your parents, and get them to speak to the teacher.

Yes the boys were like that in my day, plastic seats were a great advantage for them, they could make a whole assembly hall laugh.

Yes, It was very fair. It was not your first time, in fact, you probably were very disrepestful in several other ways, days and times. You were doing your usual being disruptive, insubordinate and causing a lot of other students to act the same way. I'm sure there was a lot of "Uncontrollable"  laughter and  others were burping, belching and hiccuping following your disrepestful lead.

Sounds to me she was fed up with your constant "Clowning".

"Excuse Miss" was probably said in a offensive, silly and funny way to add additional disrespect, to make her look foolish and cause additional laughter.

Hopefully, she called your parents to discuss your continual antics and how to help you control yourself, be responsible and respectful to your teacher in class.

I could be wrong but .. My guess is you didnt get a detention for 'burping' .. You got a detention for disturbing the class .. Obviously with an intentional and maybe even forced burp.  I will give you some credit to think you know perfectly well what is unacceptible behaviour.. and burping and it's counterpart .. (passing a loud gasser) are obviously a no  no.

I guess, it's time to resolve yourself to an acceptible level of self control. Time to grow up, or pay the consequences for that sort of juvenile behaviour.

Strange? How so? Your teacher obviously thought you did it on purpose and didn't believe it was an accident. If it was truly an accident .. and you are truly sorry for disturbing your class ,, then explain that to your teacher AFTER your class is over, Tell her/him that it really was unintentional and explain how embarassed you were about it. They may decide to go a little easier on you.

I spoke to my tutor today it has all been sorted my teacher who's class I burped realised i wasn't being deliberately rude and it was just accidentall and she knows I am not a bad student she just found it rude but because she knows I am not a bad student got the detention reduced to just 10 minutes of my lunch hour she still felt even tough I showed manners by excusing myself it was disruptive and she couldn't let me off without a punishment

That sounds fair ... It happened, it disrupted the class ... even if it was accidental. Take the consequence and move on. Glad you worked it out.

First, yes it's very fair

Just a thought that is worth exactly what you're paying for it.  Divest yourself of the idea that life is fair.  EVERY SINGLE PERSON has many "unfair" experiences. That's life. What's important it's if you have an unfair experience.whats important is that you grow up, handle it and move on.
