Factors of 15 are = 3*5
The GCF is 3

Quite sure. Once you divide both numbers by 3, the values that remain are 2 and 5. Their only common factor is 1. Thus 3 is the greatest common factor of 6 and 15.
You can also do it by the Euclidean algorithm. 15/6 = 2 remainder 3. 6/3 = 2 remainder 0. Thus 3 is the GCF.
