The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in Nigeria has been on nationwide strike since November 2011, causing massive problems for academic activities across the country. The strike is a response to Government demands for changes in funding and working conditions.
The Union's National Executive Council (NEC) has decided today (February 1 2012) to finally suspend the strike - see this ASUU Twitter status. It also stated, "We want to thank you all for the understanding thus far. All lecturers are to resume immediately. ASUU will not relent on her efforts to rescue the educational system by pressing home the demands necessary at all times."
