To start a new life, and because they had to many crop failures. Some came for religious freedom. Germans were part of a crazy quilt of noble families. If your religion wasn't the same as the baron that owned the land, you were in trouble.
Some came for economic opportunities. After all, only the first born son could inherit land.
Some came to get away from wars and constant quarrels of the barons.

They came to get away from all the mean people in germany. They were killing everyone. And they didnt want to be the next people to be killed.
