An editorial is written by one/many of the editors on the staff of the newspaper. It is usually on the last page of the front section. Editorials allow editors to pose their opinion (or that of the newspaper) on a news item in the editorial section. It does not qualify as "news."
News articles differ that they must be factual and supported with sources. They must be written by the journalist absent of his/her personal opinion. Objectivity is key.
