CA is an abbreviation of the named profession Chartered Accountant. A CA degree refers to a degree level qualification in the subject area. The title is internationally recognized and is considered to be the first type of accountant to form a professional body. It was initially established in 1854 in Britain. The three original bodies include:
-The Edinburgh Society of Accountants (1845)
-The Glasgow Institute of Accountants (1854)
-The Aberdeen Society of Accountants (1867).
Chartered Accountants are able to, and do, work in all fields of finance and other business related areas. Many work in public practice and the private sector as well as some others being employed by departments within governments.
In America, the profession is defined slightly differently; the most approximate equivalent to a Chartered Accountant is named under the title "Certified Public Accountant".
The starting salary for a Chartered Accountant varies quite dramatically. This depends upon the size and relative location of the institute in which the professional works for. Trainees generally earn between £18,000 and £25,000 per year, however this is only an approximation/average. The median salary for Chartered Accountants that have been qualified for 2 years is £42,000 per year, however the median for all qualified Chartered Accountants, regardless of their time within the profession, is £70,000.
