A fact family is the list of facts associated with three values and a particular operation.  Their one of the current means of memorizing basic addition and subtraction.
By way of example, take the values 1, 2, and 3, and the operation of addition.
The first four facts might be:
1 + 2 = 3
2 + 1 = 3
3 = 1 + 2
3 = 2 + 1
As addition and subtraction work in tandem for integers, the following four facts will also be included in the fact family:
3 - 1 = 2
3 - 2 = 1.
