The Mingos effectively got their names from the Anglo-Americans who called them mingos, which was a corruption of "mingwe", an Algonquian word meaning "stealthy" or "treacherous". It's also good to note that Mingos have also been known as "Ohio Iroquois" and "Ohio Seneca".
