Tessellate is a word for the forming of a mosaic pattern. Tessellated is the adjective form of this word. It means to be inlaid or mosaic. Thus it is to be adorned or decorated. It can be described as being provided with something that would have the effect of increasing its beauty or distinction of an object.

It is a word derived from the noun form tessellation. It refers to a process which is used in surface modeling and solid modeling. It represents 3D objects and is not used for 2D graphics. Tessellated is also a term that is used in the medical terminology to describe something that is composed of or patterned in small squares. Thus any tessellated object would have a checkered appearance. Tessellated can also be called as tiled.
