I am presuming that this is an answer to a question you have been asked for an interview or test paper. Your first thought was probably to simply times 23 by three, which would give you 69. However that is not the correct answers.

The correct answer is in fact 66 feet between the first and last plant. If you're not sure how to work it out, then grab yourself a pen and piece of paper and make 23 crosses or markers going across the page in a straight line. Then put little arrows in between each one and a little three next to it so that you know this space represents three feet. Then count each of these spaces and you will find that there are 22. Multiply three by 22, which gives you 66 and you have your answer of 66 feet between the first and last plant.

If you want to double check and are good with your times tables then you can count each space as you go down, three, six, nine, 12, etc. Until you have counted them all and you will find again that your answer is 66.

If you ever have trouble figuring out maths problems such as this, then get a piece of pen and paper and write it out so that you can visually see it. This will make it much easier for you to work out and that way, you can always double check it if you need to. This method will work for you because, as you can see from the calculation before (23 times three) you question may not always be as simple as you think.
