One ancient inscription suggests that our decimal system was used first in China in the 13th century BC. Robert Temple wrote a book called The Genius of China in which he documents the discovery of that inscription, and he also suggests besides the decimal system that over half of the inventions or discoveries that modern society rests upon originated in China.
