Why does reading make me tired?

I'm not exactly sure why, but my mother has the same problem. Our eyes use up a LOT of energy, though. I forgot the actual percentage, but it was a lot. So this may explain why when you read, your eyes feel strained and you get sleepy.

Either reading something awful boring or you have problems with your eyes reading and reading can cause eye strain which will tire one out real quick so may be time to get your eyes checked out

A good optometrist can diagnose all manner of eye problems beyond just the need for glasses. It may be time for an update to your prescription anyway.
