Literature that influenced the world? That's an interesting topic!

I guess off the top of my head would be the best way to answer this as, if I have to think too  hard about a title's name, I could possibly assume it didn't leave an impression on the history books in the way your questions suggests.

My first thought is to literary compositions by one William Shakespeare.

Romeo and Juliet is probably the most well known love story ever written, and the opening soliloquy in Hamlet is synonymous with theater itself.

But what about books that have had a tangible impact on the world?

I can't think of any more consequential than the holy scripts of the world's three largest religions: The Bible, the Koran, and the Torrah.

From the crusades to the war in Iraq, books of religious teachings have guided, misguided, enlightened, enslaved.. All depending on which point of view you take.

Not exactly literature you say?

Well, I guess that depends what you say qualifies for inclusion in the literary canon.

Personally, I'd say it is any piece of work that is studied and respected by others (whether that be for its artistic merit, or its philosophical one).
