Rene is going to the lake to visit some friends. If the lake is 60 miles away, and Rene is driving at 40 miles per hour the entire time, how long will it take her to get to the lake? 50 minutes, 70 minutes, 90 minutes, or 110 minutes?

Ok, so Rene is driving at 40 miles per hour, this can be represented as:

40 miles = 60 minutes

Now we want to know how many minutes will it take to do 60 miles, or:

60 miles = x minutes

The key is that 40 miles needs to be multiplied by 1.5 in order to equal 60 (you can work that out through dividing 60/40)

So if we multiply the equivalent 60 miles by 1.5, we get 90 minutes: Which is the answer you are looking for!
