I have always used etc. I'm not sure if that is the correct way or not.
"Etc." would be the correct alternative. The Latin expression is "et cetera", which basically means "and so forth". Thus, when you list things that share a common characteristic or that are categorized in the same class, you often add "etc." to show that the list carries onward. (Ex.: Most babies can be lulled to sleep with toys, lullabies, mobiles, etc., but some babies sleep peacefully without any aid.)
What I have learned is to use etc.

etc is correct. I've never seen or heard ect.... It's the wrong spelling!
