It's a term of endearment, kind of like honey, sweetheart....guess I'd rather be called babe then old lady!

I call a girl babe to show my sweet side to a girl, i like honey, sweetie, Sweetheart
I have no idea. It's rude, and it's not even a proper title.
Guys tend to call girls "babe" as a term of endearment, although I guess it could also be misused too.
Use of the word babe is also a socio-cultural thing too. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't hear the word "babe" used too often in certain parts of the country, where they may have an alternative "nickname" for women.
