I think it should but then you have the people that would sue someone that applied first aid with a negative outcome. It's human nature to help another human but there are those that hesitate due to the politically correct, sue happy world we live in.
As part of my project I am researching 'Should First Aid be part of the school curriculum or not in order to educate people on how to act in emergency situations?' Please answer this question truthfully and share reasons for your opinions.
Yes... I do think first aid should be part of the curriculum... Absolutely! First aid training can help in so many aspects of life, not only to treat casualties, but to help control panic in many instances ranging from a stubbed toe or small bump on the head, to a major catastrophe. Knowing not only what to do but what not to do helps in so many ways on many levels.
When I was in high school it was part of our health class, which was a required class. That was quite a while ago, so I don't know that it is still true, but if it isn't it should be. I learned more useful information from that class that just about anything else I took in high school. It not only taught first aid, but went more in depth about what our choices to use drugs and having sex could do, especially long term.
I also took first aid as an elective in college. Because I have that training, and because I always volunteered if an employer ever wanted to send someone for CPR certification, I have been able to help when someone needed it. Not only with normal first aid for cuts, bruises, sprains, etc., but when a coworker was choking on a piece of hard candy my training kicked in. I asked her if she was actually choking. (She nodded yes) Asked if she wanted me to do the Heimlich Manoeuvre. (She again nodded.) I got behind her and did as I was trained. The candy went flying and she was fine.
It should be mandatory. The knowledge could save lives.
Of course, yes! Knowing how to use first aid's saved my life on one occasion.
Had a new boss who required everyone in the organization to go thru CPR, not only the field people, but office slugs also. When I asked him why he thought it was so important that us office people knew it, he simply replied that he was getting older and it gave him comfort to know there were 50 people nearby who could save him. .
