Should I choose French the class which would benefit me & give me opportunities or life work planning which would not benefit me? My friends aren't taking French,I know French would benefit me. Should I not join French just because my friends aren't?

You have to REALLY ask yourself why you considered learning French in the first place. It will be useful if you ever want to live or do business in France, or want a career in the Dip Service. (It's not a particularly "fun" language to learn, though).

Don't worry about what your friends are doing.  If you want to do French, and you think it will benefit you, then do French.  If you don't think it will benefit you, then don't do it.  I chose History even though I knew none of my friends were doing it.  Fortunately for me, I have a friend who chose it and I didn't even know until after we submitted our subjects.  I also had no friends in my Science class last year, and you have to work with people more in that than languages.  I didn't need friends, and it doesn't matter if you know no one in your classes.  You'll still see your friends at lunch, weekends and after and before school.
