I don't call any objects or people "gay". I don't even use the word,  because of the associated meaning the word has come to mean😞.

The uses of the word gay have varied so much over the years, I avoid it because it no longer associates with a clear specific definition.

Use something too much and it no longer works.

It means "homosexual" in a majority of cases and most gay people that I know use it to refer to themselves (including me).

Yes, you can see how stereotypes of homosexual men may have been the reason why it took on the meaning of "homosexual" eventually (the whole "light in the loafers" thing).

Apparently, the first uses of the word "gay" to mean "homosexual" date back to the 1950s and '60s. By the latter 20th century, the word's meaning had more or less shifted away from the original meaning.

I've yet to find an inanimate object that is either homosexual or happy ... So "No".

No, I do not. Maybe because I am gay, so I find using it as an insult to be childish.

I had an aloe vera plant and I names it "Gay." I loved that plant. I use to talk to Gay all of the time. It was my favorite plant and I managed to keep it alive for many years.
