I'm trying to write an airport scene. Thing is I've never been to an airport . . . :) So what does it look like? Where do you go once you get there?

You do a Google or Bing image search to see the inside of an airport.

If you need a boarding pass - the document that allows you to get on the plane, you need to stand in line at the correct ticket counter so you can check your bag. If you have only carryon luggage, I believe you can skip this step. Once you have given them your carryon luggage and paid the appropriate fee, then you find your departure gate.

You will be required to go through a security check at this point. You have to take off your shoes, empty your pockets and put your purse, laptop, etc., on a conveyer belt so you can be x-rayed or scanned.

Once you have been deemed safe to travel, you pick up all your crap, stuff your feet into your shoes, you get out of the way. You can now get a beverage, something to eat, read, etc. Until you are ready to board the plane.

This is good advice, Danae. There's so much available on the Net.

Not like in the olden days when you had to actually go to the library and look this stuff up.

Here's one I don't think you want to go see but it would make an interesting scene.

Reminds me of the time the boss asked me to take his car out for a service. I'd never been there before and didn't realise the road ran under a runway at Sydney's international airport. It was startling to see a big jet come trundling across the road in front of me.
