Who do you think should be granted American citizenship at birth? Babies born in the US? Babies born to at least 1 American parent? And why?

To at least 1 American citizen ... Yes.

I don't think being born IN a country should grant automatic citizenship, but since every country does it that way (AFAIK) ... I guess we're stuck with it.

Dual citizenship occurs automatically for some individuals. For example: a child is born in the United States to foreign parents. In this example this child has U.S. Dual Citizenship since the child is automatically a citizen of the United States and a citizen of its parent's home country. The same applies to children of U.S. citizens born abroad where the child is both a U.S. citizen and a citizen of the country of birth.

The way things are going today? I believe you should have the same status as your oarents - legal residency and no more. I dont think anyone should be given automatic citizenship when neither parent is a citizen. To eliminate that law would eliminat at least one big reason for illegal immigration.

To an American citizen parent - of course.  The parent is a citizen why should their child not be?

Should children born to two non-citizen foreign nationals in the US be given automatic citizenship? Maybe not.

The problem with the immigrants isnt the families with a parent who are cituzens.  The problem are the families where both parents are NOT citizens who come up here and have children assuming having a child who is a citizen gives them an automatic right to stay without citizenship.  In those cases its the children who suffer  either way.  Either they are being separated from their parents or are dragged out of their country to live in Mexico, usually in very poor conditions.

My parents were legal permanent residents when I was born in the US. Should I have been denied citizenship at birth then?
