The square root of a number is raised to the 2nd power to arrive at the original number.
The cube root of a number is raised to the 3rd power to arrive at the original number.

√9 = 3,  3*3 = 9
∛27 = 3,  3*3*3 = 27

A square root of a number, N, is a number which, when multiplied by itself, will give the number N as the result.  A cube root of a number V, is a number which, when multiplied by itself and then multiplied by itself again, will give the number V as the result.
