You often hear adults saying things like 'enjoy your childhood whilst it lasts'.
This is because, when you become an adult, your life becomes full of pressures, expectations, stresses and strains.
Childhood is often seen as an innocent, care-free and happy time for many people.
Is childhood the best time of your life? I guess the answer to this question really depends on what kind of childhood and what kind of adulthood a person has.
Whilst it is easy to see why the freedom and lack of responsibilities that a child enjoys might seem appealing to an adult, childhood can also be quite difficult.
No, kids aren't responsible for going to work, paying the bills, looking after the kids and all the other things that adults are expected to do - but not all children have an easy or pleasant childhood.
Is childhood always happy?
I recently watched a documentary about homeless children who live on the banks of the Bariganga river in Bangladesh, and these children didn't seem to have a childhood at all!
The TV program showed children as young as 5 who spent their days trawling through rubbish on the river looking for plastic bottles that they could then sell to recycling companies.
These children were filmed working from the moment they woke up until the moment they fell asleep. Rather than falling asleep in a comfy bed, the kids simply slept in piles of rubbish under a bridge.
So, my point is that, whilst childhood SHOULD be the best time of a person's life, this is not always the case.
As a mother of two daughters myself, I'd love to think that childhood is a happy time for all people across the planet.
