     Change the 2/3 to a common denominator, like 6, Be sure to change the numerator the same multiple that you used in the denominator. Now add the numerators together. Convert the factor into a mixed number, be sure to go to the lowest common denominator and you are done.
     In you example you can also find the least common denominator of 4/6 then add the numerators, convert to a mixed number and get the answer in a more direct manner.
