The art of how to write a salary increase is a tricky one for a number of reasons as it is a sensitive subject for any employer.

You have to skilfully create a letter that is not forceful or demanding;  you should adapt the tone towards who you are targeting it to. You should start off by addressing it to the right person, stating the date and the tone should of course be formal, so a dear Sir or Madam would be appropriate here.

Write the date and the subject and intention of why you are writing this letter. You need to state in the main body of your letter that why you feel you are valuable to the company and what you have done for them in order to merit your raise.

This could be outlined in a number of reasons; if you have brought new business into the company or exceeded the revenue guidelines this could be a great reason to write down in your letter. Secondly, you should mention that you know your boss is under extreme pressure to deliver results whilst keeping to the budget they have for the company.

So it is essential you do not mention why you deserve a raise but you should outline all the contributing factors as to the reason why. You should also write any statements about your output or your clients that you feel will add weight to your cause.

It is essential therefore to make the clear distinction between the values of a certain role versus the value of you as an individual employee. Finish off by clearly stating what you think you might be worth as an asset to the company and end the letter in a courteous manner.

First of all you would need to think why you feel you deserve a pay increase, then sell your boss with your answers, either on paper or in person. Remeber that a pay increase other than a yearly, would have to be due to you going above and beyond your job duties.
