It is possible to make slime without borax or cornstarch. The instructions below will create a substance that is more like silly goo or silly putty. In order to make something more slime like, you will need to use borax or cornstarch. Cornflour can be used as an alternative but is not anywhere near as effective. Silly goo can be stretched or rolled into a ball for children to bounce on the floor. It can even be used to help relieve stress in adults.
To make this goo you will need 2 plastic cups, ½ tsp Epsom salt, ½ tsp water, a spoon, 1 tbsp glue (this can be wood glue or ordinary PVA), waxed paper and a plastic zipper bag. First you will need to place the ½ tsp of Epsom salt and ½ tsp of water into one of the cups. You should then mix the two ingredients together with a spoon until most of the salt has dissolved. In the other plastic cup squeeze of 1 tbsp of glue. It is recommended that for the best results you should use wood glue, but white PVA will work too. You can add food colouring at this point if you want to make coloured silly goo. But to do this, compensate with the amount of water you use, i.e. Make sure that both the food colouring and water make up the ½ tsp. Next, pour the salt and water mixture into the cup that is holding the glue. Mix these ingredients together to form the silly goo. Scoop the mixture out of the cup and roll it onto a sheet of wax paper. You can now experiment with the substance and try pounding it, rolling it into a ball and stretching it. If you want to store the goo, then do so in a plastic bag that can be zipped and sealed.
