Populist Party or the People's Party of America refers to a political party in the United States from the 19th century. The party was very short-lived but had a number of effects on American politics such as:  - Due to the efforts of the Populist Party, the U.S Government adopted silver as the legal standard.  - The efforts of Populist party resulted in ratification of the 17th amendment, that gave way to direct elections of senators.  - Approval of Sherman Silver purchase act.
