Its a matter of opinion, and trust. Can you trust experts in a field or does you own personal opinion matter more in a first person aspect? Do you have to experience something for you to believe it? Much like religion, you can have experts tell you Christianity is true and real, then have a flip side tell you its false and unrealistic. If you had an encounter with Christ you'd believe the experts telling you its real, if you are skeptic you'd believe those telling you its unrealistic.
Really, the pursuit of knowledge is something everyone is following in one aspect or another. Everyone wants to better themselves in something, and that is a pursuit of knowledge. It depends WHAT knowledge and how you are pursuing it that really matters. The rest is opinionated. Thats my take.
