First, you need to find 72% of 1,000. Of means multiply. .72 * 1,000 = 720. 720 dogs out of 1,000 are male. For every 5 of those dogs, 3 is over five. I'm going to make it easier so I'll divide by 5. 720 = 144 There are 144 groups of five. 144 / 3 = 48. 48 * 5 = 240. 240 dogs out of 1,000 are males over the age of 5.

72% of 1000 = 720

So that's 720 males.

3/5 were over 5.

So we can set up an equation.

3/5 = x/720

If we cross multiply to solve for x:

3*720 = 5x

2160 = 5x

432 = x

So I believe the answer is 432
