It all depends on the situation really. If the party is filled with people I know and like, people who are good for connections, and isn't like a wacky party where people do things that I don't like (binge drinking, drugs, etc.), then I'd probably go just for the sake of safe socializing and hopefully making better connections.
But if it's a party with people I don't really know and there's a lot of bad stuff going on there, then I'd rather just stay home and read a book because there is no real good reason to attend such a party.
