Beats me. One man's humour is another man's insult.

It takes a fine touch to use sarcasm or satire and you can be sure that, no matter how many people laugh at it, there's always somebody who will be offended.

On that other site I once said that I'd been invited to a meeting of the Schizophrenia Society and I had half a mind to go. I was immediately taken to task by a lady who felt that schizophrenia was no joking matter. She was probably right.,

So does humour, I presume.

And like many things, timing is important.

You are absolutely correct. One man's humor is another's insult. Which begs the question: Are we getting overly sensitive or just more conscious of others?

Hello both. It's very much up to the individual. Much like music. One person's music is another person's noise. :(

By being selective as to who I am aiming my sarcastic wit towards. For example, my brother-in-law is very insecure, and even though he often sets himself up to be a target for one-liners I just can't say anything because he will take it to heart. However my brothers and I can trade barbs all day long and we never take it to heart. We only take it as a challenge to beat the each other with our wit.

In other words you have to "play to your audience".
