I don't like doing it but part of my job here is correcting spelling and grammar. I feel like a grammar Nazi sometimes but it looks better if words are spelled right and the grammar is proper. So, if you see an edit sometime, it's probably from me !
Nah. I have a friend that is originally from the other side of my state. I used to laugh at her grammar until I met her parents and sisters, they all talk that way. It's just the way they all talk in their area.
Because this is an international website, many users are not native English speakers and can often get grammar wrong.
No, I find that petty and mean.
I see only Rooster correcting grammar, sentences and spelling, for site clarify.
I'm here for fun. Not to police people's grammar or tell them what the can or can't post or how they should structure their sentences. Or ;) should I add adverbs, adjectives, nouns or pronouns. Or my spelling 🐝
I just care that they're here and having fun, getting answers and finding joy.
Last thing I need is someone reminding or pointing how illiterate I or others are.
I lost my dictionary i need to buy myself another one. I know im losing my ability for correct spelling .
Of course I do.
<grumpy>And really, if you wish to converse with your fellows, you ought to be able to do it properly. (But I try not to get precious about it, otherwise I'd rarely finish a conversation in the village shop.)</grumpy>
And, if you want to talk to ME, I care even less (provided I understand what you are saying).
Life is too short, really.
No. I may cringe inside, but I rarelly correct. If I do it is usually because someone is putting someone else down and using incorrect grammar to do so. I figure people like that are fair game.
Usually not unless I'm proofreading for someone or the question asks which form of an expression is correct.
One of the purposes of grammar, however, is to maximize clarity of thought and thus communication.
I remember asking a few days ago for one person to tell me the direct object of the question they asked so I could give him / her a targeted answer.
(And here's a good example of how silly grammar correction can get when taken to the extremes. I used "they" and then subsequently referred to "they" as an individual who was either male or female.
Obviously, I was technically incorrect, but word should serve speech; speech should not serve words. I doubt seriously that anyone didn't know what I was saying; and typing "they"---before I decided to append this explanation---was intended to save me rewording the sentence.)
To me, making this point was definitely worth the extra time it took me to explain.
Nah, my grammar and spelling can be quite atrocious as well. See!? I may have just mispelled atrocious but I have no idea.
I'll correct someone's grammar if I know then well, but not if I don't really know them that well.
Nah. It's a great way to lose friends.
