Quickly get them away from the cities and into the country where things could be gradually explained to them
If somebody from the 19th century, or earlier, somehow arrived in 2016, how would you help them adapt to this strange new world?
I think the technology world would blow them away! First thing I would teach them is to take a typing class.
Dear Didge, have you read the book ISHI, LAST OF HIS TRIBE? Something along the line of your question did happen...when during the California gold rush the whole Yahi tribe was killed, except for the last six, who hid.
And when the last survivor was alone, he stumbled out of the Northern California wilderness in 1911. He only lived five years after that...but the books tells his story, his amazement at encountering such a "huge" gathering of people in that town. He ended up living out his days in a museum...
The 1973 book is well written and poignant, examining much along the lines of your question.
