We had a back yard patio that kind of was at a slant so hose water would pool at the edge of the patio. My sister and I would play house out side and take our "babies" to the beach.
What were some outside games you played as a child? Some I played were Hide and Seek, Hopscotch, Jump Rope.
hide and seek, yes
skipping, yes
what we called, "house". (yes, self-explanatory)... When "house" was played outside, we used milkweed pods for fish sticks...was fun, believe it or not---had our "homes" in trees with enormous limbs that were great for climbing, and in stands of small evergreens
put lawn chairs in the clearings our dad made in the corn field, and that was another version of "house"
a wee bit of hop scotch
some kind of "game" with the chestnuts we got out of the shells (loved those chestnuts...they were great for whipping)
Hide and seek was always fun. Cowboys and Indians, in the woods. We all had bows and arrows (rubber tipped) and holster with cap guns.
Tag, Red Rover, Dodge Ball, Kickball.
Dodge ball, kickball, stickball, kick the can, checkers (on the street in New York), baseball on the street using a manhole cover as home plate automatic time out for traffic, flying kites from the tenement roof (with glass embedded in the first four feet of string coming from the kite and razor blades tide to the tail to battle other kites in the air).
Loved Dodge ball and Red-Rover. We played flashlight Hide and go seek/tag as well as "Capture the Flag".
I made a game like dodge ball with Frisbee's and called it "Discs of Tron".
Also, used to love this game called "Time Ball" . . .combination of Dodge ball and Tag in a smaller room.
