Anguish means someone who is suffering from severe mental or physical pain or someone who is extremely disturbed and upset about an event and therefore keeps thinking about it and goes through terrible mental and physical pain.

A sentence would be. Joan suffered from deep anguish when she heard about the sudden death of her husband in a car accident.

Miranda is in anguish since she is hospitalised and put on the ventilator.
