Just like in real elections, slogans are a great way of catching the attention of your electorate. Hence, you could take some inspiration from real-life elections! Slogans that have been used in Obama’s campaign and British Prime Minister David Cameron’s campaign, like ‘it’s time for change!’ are fantastic slogans that you can use in your campaign.

Make sure that when you’re choosing your slogans, you are making a point. You want slogans like ‘I’ll make a difference’, or ‘I will get things done’, to promote the idea of being productive and an effective president or council leader. You want your students to know that you’re going to get things done and really make a difference during your time ‘in office’, and hence slogans that reflect what you’re going to do are your best bet.

You should also try and make your slogan as short as possible. By making sure that the slogan is catchy and sticks in the head of the electorate, you can guarantee a lot of support. Slogans that are long and complicated will be uninteresting and not effective enough to gain enough support, unless the election’s already a foregone conclusion!

Remember that these elections are comparable to US general elections, in that the electorate needs to know that you can actually do something to benefit them. Hence, using slogans that get their attention and attract them can near enough guarantee your success.

Student council elections are a great thing to do if you’re looking to go to university and study politics. By getting involved with politics at such a basic level, you are actually creating some experience that you can use on your resume, and creating a good impression on the university that you are applying for.
