There are so many books that can change their lives. People feel diet books, religious books or just plan novels can help and change their lives. For myself there are many, but at present, in my present 'place' I am pleased to say that there are three that come to mind particularly.
These are Fugitive Pieces by Anne Michaels, a work of fiction about the Holocaust and living withe the Holocaust. The second is True and False: Heresy and Common Sense for the Actor by David Mamet. A hell-fire manifesto on the pragmatics of acting. The final book is called the Power of Kabbalah by Yehuda Berg.
The first book, Fugitive Pieces taught me about how pain is transferred through a family and how the pain of the past affects the present and the future.
The second book changed my view of theatre making and acting particularly, particularly with his views on character and emotion.
If I hadn't had read this book, I never would have trained in NYC.
The third book is The Power of Kabbalah, an amazingly simple book that helped me overcome my illness and continues to inspire me on a daily basis.
If I was allowed a fourth, it would be Coelho's Veronika Decides to Die.
