Archimedes, the Greek mathematician from Syracuse, was born sometime in the year 287 B.C. Besides being a mathematician, he also dabbled in Physics and engineering. In fact, he is most famous for his accidental discovery that led him to propose the theory of buoyancy. Archimedes in his birthday suit running out screaming 'Eureka' is an image that everyone who has read a bit of Physics will clearly remember. Besides the theory of buoyancy, another important area where Archimedes left a mark is Calculus, in mathematics. Despite his many talents in the fields of physics and engineering, he made equally critical contributions in mathematics. He was a man of many talents, and has made many significant contributions to science, making him one of the original authentic scientific geniuses of his time.

Archimedes was thought to have died in 212 B.C. at the age of 75 years. His death happened in the course of the Second Punic War. He also contributed to the military of the state by building different devices to be used during the war, in order to protect the city from the enemies.
