Leonardo da Vinci would have worn the clothes that were popular at the time he was alive. He was born in 1452 and died in 1519, and popular clothes in the late 1400s, and early 1500s, were basic. Men in this period wore shirts, doublets and hose and a gown. The shirts were made of linen and had low necklines and wide sleeves that were pulled through the doublet sleeves and puffed up. The general look of the time, was that men appeared top heavy because of the number of layers they wore on the upper half of the body. Men also wore a loose linen undergarment that was held up with the use of a belt. The hose worn covered the legs and were often multi colored and embroidered. Hair at this time was generally quite unkempt and was frizzy and long, and most men had facial hair; a beard and moustache. Leonard da Vinci was an Italian artist, who is most remembered for his paintings and his sculpture. His most famous painting is the Mona Lisa, whilst The Last Supper is the most reproduced religious painting in history. He was born to a notary and a peasant woman in Florence, Italy and was educated at the studio of Verrocchio. During his life he lived and worked in Rome, Venice, Bologna and France. He also made discoveries in the fields of civil engineering and anatomy. He invented the bobbin winder, although he received no recognition for this. He is also said to have developed ideas for inventing the helicopter and a tank.

If you go to www.wikipedia.org you can type in Leonardo da vinci, and you will come to a site that will give you a wealth of information. If you look at the Mona Lisa, you will get a good idea of the type of clothing he wore, because of the period that he lived in. Hope this helps.

The Mona Lisa is a painting of a woman, who would not have worn masculine clothing of the time. Especially the hats and tunics.
