Generally speaking...IQ scores range somewhere between 50 (lowest) to 150 (highest), with 100 being considered average (half of the population have IQ's of between 90 and 110) ...So, with a score of 120, I'd say that you would be considered very smart, I mean - intelligent! ) Good score!
To try and put it into perspective, an I.Q of 120 would put you ahead of about 90% of the population. But one issue of that is whether that population is referred to being global or the population of a specific country, which is very important in deciding whether the result is significant. It's also worth noting that I.Q tests don't always take into account ll aspects of cognitive development and in some tests focus purely on mathematical aspects. By this standard Einstein wouldn't be considered a genius, since his worse subject was maths.
Although you can say that it is a good score for such a test, but do bare in mind that that is a good score BY THE STANDARDS TESTED. Anything that isn't academic won't apply to your I.Q such as musical talent or artistic licence. Literature and language also doesn't apply. If it did then I would have a higher score, but it stands at 125 (this is an average score taken from previous tests done).
It is in the Superior Range of functioning. However, the validity and reliability are as good as the quality of the test and the person administering it. Usually, a psychologist individually administering a standardized IQ test is the most reliable and valid way to be tested.
Average is from 90 to 109 on standardized IQ tests.
110 to 119 is in the "High Average" range.
120 to 129 is Superior.
130 to 139 is "Very Superior". This is often considered Gifted.
Yes, the 120 score is very good! My score was just a bit less and that was exceptional. There are several types of FREE IQ test you can take. Go to Google, type in "What is your IQ Score?" and you have an enormous selection is various areas. There is even one to test your internet skills. Have fun, but don't let any of it "psych" you out.
