You might consider starting off with an online blog (a blog is basically an online diary!) in order to test the waters, and find out how popular such a publication might be?

One site that offers free blogs is LiveJournalm. There are others around, such as Blogger and WordPress, I just went to LiveJournal as it's the one that I use!

It is not difficult to publish a diary if you are interested in self publishing. It is more difficult/competitive to secure a publisher for your work.
